MY CRAFT
DESIGN
I'm a silversmith who creates small, dimensional sculptures out of flat sterling silver sheet and wire (aka, jewelry). My designs balance my obsession with geometry and crisp settings with a love of textures and patterns.

MY PROCESS
My inspiration begins with gemstones. First, I choose the stone or stones that my heart wants. The rest of the design process is kinetic rather than 'artistic'. I have little boxes of shapes and decorative bits that I've collected over the years (never waste anything). I play with the stones and the different shapes like a puzzle. I keep everything moving, swapping out stones, decorative elements, etc., until a voice deep inside whispers, "Yes!"
CRAFTSMANSHIP
Once a design crystalizes the real work begins. The slow part. Since no stone is exactly the same size and shape, the setting (called a bezel) is carefully fitted around each stone. After that the bezel is soldered to a silver backing using my favorite tool: my torch! Every design requires its own strategy -- which step is completed in what order. Every stamp and each blow of the hammer is delivered with my own hands.
